Lindsay!!

So here's the first post relating to Lindsay Lohan. My very nice co-student worker today mentioned that Lindsay's newest movie's trailer is out. I was so excited I doodled a large L on my left hand.

Having just watched the video in Sayles, I mildly want to go see it. Besides the fact that she is so unbelievably attractive (coked out anorexia aside), it looks like a movie that's trying to be both gore porn and a movie of mistaken identity between twins (perhaps a sly reference to her debut remake of the Parent Trap? Who knew back then all the joy she'd bring us). Anyways, here it is:

I read the first 20 pages of Gravity's Rainbow. It's not bad. Pynchon loves a run-on sentence. They're long and winding and rather frenetic, but strangely poetic. I commented to Tom Fry that if you gave a college creative writing class these first 20 pages, they'd pick them apart (Greg, I'd love to see some our former classmates grapple with Pynchon: "I'm not sure I understand what's going on here" or "Maybe if I knew a little bit more about the characters"...)

Life is pretty damn nice.

It's a Multimedia Extravaganza!

How 'bout this hot pic from my parents' trip up?

I love pictures where no one looks better than anyone else.

I've been listening to 3-4 albums a day since Tuesday, which is awesome. Favorites this week:

Fujiya & Miyagi - Transparent Things Until the last track of the album, I couldn't figure out if these guys were robots, or if they were just afraid of their feelings. It turned out to be the latter ("Cylinders" manages a sincerity that the rest of the record doesn't even make a pass at). Cold calculation abounds, but this record is fun, nonetheless, and while its absurdity can feel a little studied, I can't help but love a breakdown set to the lyrics of "Dry Bones".

F&M - Collarbone

The National - Boxer I really, really like this. It's bleak for sure, but it's catchy enough that, being happy at the moment, I am in the mood to listen to it anyway. The drums carry me through nearly every song, and Matt Beringer's voice is one of my favorite sounds right now.

The National - Brainy

The National - Apartment Story

Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna...This is a dark, dark record. I can't connect with it personally, but I can listen to it and say to myself, "Fuck. This guy is in a bad way." "The Past is a Grotesque Animal" is the fastest 10-minute song I've ever heard. I'd put up "Cato as a Pun", but I can't find a link.

The Microphones - The Glow, Pt. 2 Another sad/great record. Don't have a full report on this one yet, but I'm hooked.

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless I've loved this album for a long time, and i've listened to it twice this week. I'll probably listen to it again today. So hot. So, so hot.

I just bought a sweet photo print at the senior art sale that's going on today. I'll scan it in during work and put it up.

Here it is:
I ran into a guy in the library that looks like Paul Simon. Also, there is not nearly enough activity on this blog. It's summer bros, come on, I know you have the time. Colin, you have not posted yet. Everyone else, post again. I wanna read your stuff.

squishy the (fluff)friend

So, I'm at work.

It's great. I just balanced some financial books. You know how it goes.

I just shredded a couple hundred checks. The shredder is this big box that just eats huge reams of paper without a problem. The precaution signs are awesome. Anyone with long hair, a necklace, or a tie should not use the machine. That precludes a lot of people, in my opinion.

Now I'm going to stuff some envelopes. Tom, I've got that Boats song stuck in my head. I think I'll listen to it at lunch today. Which is in 14 minutes, which I'm pretty psyched for!

Turkey Sandwiches are the shit.

Fact-finding on thefacebook and other adventures

Today I culled my facebook friends list for the first time ever, and oh what I learned. I hadn't looked at a lot of my old friends'/acquaintances' profiles in quite a while. Best nuggets of newfound information:

-Danielle McClendon, 3rd chair French horn player in my high school band and class of '06 Rocky Mountain High School graduate, is now married, and her new profile name is Danielle "McClendon" Williams.

-Lisa Dratch, the cute, wholesome girl on the debate team that may have liked me in 11th grade (never worked out), has transferred to Bard College and wears a lot of eye makeup sometimes (and rather well, I must say).

-Don Smith's new profile picture (the inspiration for this post):

Speaking of white-hot vocal percussion, I stumbled upon the website of a group called--this is great--Indie Blockedappella, an a cappella group that covers exclusively indie songs. They're pretty meticulous; they match the actual recordings pretty closely, and they actually kind of sound like a bunch of hip indie kids singing together. These facts notwithstanding, I have never been more aware of how intrinsically uncool a cappella is. Thanks for coming to the concert, guys. Really.

Well, I guess...

I know I said I hated Sky Blue Sky, and I still haven't warmed up to it, but this sounds really, really good. Check it out:
