One unforeseen consequence of John Edwards' campaign drop-out is that today two paragraphs of a front page article on Slate were partially about my mother's experience with breast cancer. At the time it happened, I wasn't interested in talking about this even with my high school friends, and to see it mentioned three years after the fact on one of the nation's most popular online magazines is surreal, to say the least.
